My family moved to Goleta just before I started fourth grade, and I remained in town until graduating from Dos Pueblos High School. Unbeknownst to me, my future wife, Joyce, was living a mile away and was one year behind me in school, although we didn’t know each other until we met in Los Angeles at age 25. Both of us enjoyed annual trips to the Museum in our grade school years.
Following high school, I attended first UC San Diego (BA Economics) and then USC (MBA). Subsequently, I began a 35 year career in investment management in Los Angeles, first at Scudder, Stevens, and Clark, and then, after it was acquired, Capital Group. At Scudder, my focus was on managing equity portfolios for high net worth individuals and endowments, while at Capital Group I also was a “stock picker” within three mutual funds. I was a partner at both organizations.
In 2020, my wife and I bought a second home in Montecito and began shifting our lives back toward the Santa Barbara area. Upon my retirement a couple of months ago, we became full time residents once again.
I was on the board of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) for over seven years, leaving at the end of 2023. For most of my tenure, I served as the Treasurer and head of the Finance Committee. The GLAZA board is a working board overseeing fund raising, membership, marketing, concessions, and a number of other functions.
My main passion is travel which has led me to museums in cities large and small. Santa Barbara is extraordinary in its cultural assets and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is an absolute gem among these treasures. I would be honored to be considered for the board.
